The area of the Municipality of Sveti Filip i Jakov was inhabited in prehistoric times, as evidenced by the remains of a settlement built with dry stone walls on a hill and surrounded by concentric circles.

During the 16th century, the present-day core of Sveti Filip i Jakov was created. The Church of St. Michael is mentioned in the 16th century, but was destroyed by the Turks, so in 1707 the current one with a bell tower was built.

Valuable archaeological finds and sacral monuments, as well as characteristic authentic localities, are known. The entire area of the municipality represents an exceptional archaeological complex, so it is a desirable destination for all lovers of exploring nature and a rich past.
